Opt-in pet history sharing

When a pet owner explicitly chooses to share, you receive a scoped care summary for context before the visit. No sharing happens automatically or as a condition of booking.

Hard rule: Joining PetMyDear, receiving appointment requests, and verifying your practice never grant access to any patient records. Individual pet owners must explicitly authorize access for a specific pet, clinic, purpose, and time window.

How owner-controlled sharing works

Owner initiates the share

After an appointment is confirmed, the pet owner sees an optional prompt in their PetMyDear app: "Share a Pet Care Summary?" with "Not now" equally prominent. Nothing is pre-selected.

Scoped to specific data

The owner chooses exactly what to share — medications, allergies, vaccine history, weight trend, recent events. Personal notes and raw documents are unchecked by default and never auto-included.

Time-limited access

Access expires 7 days after the appointment (maximum 30 days). Your team views the summary only while the grant is active — rescheduling doesn't extend it automatically.

What you can receive

If an owner grants access, you see a PetMyDear-generated owner-maintained care summary — not an authenticated complete veterinary medical record. Content is clearly labeled with provenance.

Legal note

Veterinary record release rules vary by jurisdiction. Animal health records are not universally governed by HIPAA. PetMyDear does not claim HIPAA certification. Pet health sharing is an owner-initiated information summary, not a medical record transfer. Integration with PIMS systems for bidirectional clinical data exchange requires a separate legal review and vendor agreement.
